1 Kali Stix Flowstate Intro
THE KEY TO MASTERY IS REPETITION there are no short cuts accept for doin more repetitions in less time
cause mastery is not measured in time but the repetitions you do in that time
the more you do and study it the better you become .
The stick has been mans best friend since the beginning of time
mother earth gave man sticks from the trees that we have used to defend ourselves from all sorts of predators,
man and beasts since the beginning of time.. man also has a thumb there for can grip tools and weapons
which is one of the main reasons we are not extinct today and man has been discovering , mastering and
passing down stick defense techniques from generation to generation for survival since the beginning of man.
its almost bread into our dna if you pay attention to a non trained fighter many times they resort to swinging wild hammer fists strikes
if a weapon is put in that wild swinging hand is automatically dangerous. and teach wear to chamber a weapon ,
so it can be controlled. training the stick is training the natural defense of man
every tribe around the world has had their form of stick weapons and they varied in style
depending on the enemy pray and / or work they used them for typically
the greatest worrior of the tribe or the most skilled with a stick weapon became a leader
if we look into tribes who have have mastered the art of battle we have to look at the tribes in the philipine islands
who have always been in battle who used a double short stick or double weapon concept completely offensive
we are going to stick to the fundamentals
there are 8 angles of slashing strikes then stabbing motions forward and from 8 angles
Strikes can be thrown from any angle but they fall within the 8 striking angles
kali kombat is offensive defense because its hard to block weapons
with a stick we use our strikes are blocks this helps to understand that there are 8 ,
angles to defend and also understand where to chamber your weapon after the strike for control
linear strikes are blocks with circular strikes
and circular strikes are blocked with linear strikes
understanding where to chamber your weapon between strikes is crucial for furthing the techniques .
there is a throw and a catch the chamber is the catch
KALI is a filipino martial art or FMA for short
the stick represents any weapon in your hand weather it be a knife machete small bat lighter anything you can find
even use the same techniques and all the concepts without a weapon.
in kali the empty hand style is called Panantukan . The stick is easily translated to empty-hand because the swinging of the stick is led with an elbow
and followed with a hammer fist back hand but with the stick you lead with the wrist so your strikes become untelegraphed
and you are training to the to strike from many angles with striking combinations that that flow into finishes
ok so lets start with the first strike combination the 1-2 going from low chamber to high and we will add 1 strike at a time and
just know you practice doing them from different angles or whatever
not only do these chambers allow you to swing your weapon as hard as you can without loosing control having to regroup after the swing
and it alows you to bounce off the chamber and come right back faster but when you enter into closer range you don't want to
keep holding the weapon out because you may get disarmed or hit trying to keep from getting disarmed or
put into a joint lock. if you notice these chambers also represent the empty hand blocking forms
you see in many of our kali kombat tutorials demos and courses, these blocks are found in many
martial arts such as 52 blocks panantukan boxing and more
like i said when you swing the weapon hard you want it to land in one of the chambers
but that doesnt mean every strike gos from chamber to chamber for instance the abaniko
which is translated as fan or fanning for the fanning motion of the stick or weapon with the twist of the wrist
which is a very sneaky unpredictable strike which can also come from all the angles of striking as well
the abaniko is also hard to block cause you don't want to block a weapon attack with your hand
so you would want to block the arm that holds the weapon instead but if you only block the arm
the momentum of the weapon will still be moving and when practiced can be used as a set up
at first like anything you want to start slow and gradually build speed because there is no chamber to catch the strike
you can twist your wrist the abaniko . the abaniko can be combined with any strike pattern that we will be going over later in this course ....
now the abaniko is not so much about building flexibility its all about technique the technique is palm up palm down
palm down palm up. and in the rotation of the shoulder this concept allows for a greater range of motion so you can easily strike front back side to side
360 degrees all around you from a stationary position. now I'm not suggesting you stand still
if you are surrounded by attackers but you want to build that range of motion
to build that 360 degree awareness vs tunnel vision and its much faster to turn your wrist and waist .. over-stand
when learning its best to pin point focus on one technique at a time and gradually piece them together
i like to use the analogy of the magnifying glass under the sun if you focus a magnifying glass under the sun to a fine point you will spark a flame
if you keep moving that magnifying glass from one point to another
to fast you will never spark a flame so if you move on from technique to technique to fast or try to do them all at once you wont spark a flame
so when learning focus on a technique till you master it then add it to another
